Yesterday Burlington’s Rotary Centennial Pond along our beautiful waterfront was the site for a film shoot for the NHL network. They are doing a segment on the NHL Winter Classic, the game being held outdoors New Years Day in Pittsburgh PA with the Penguins playing host to their rivals the Washington Capitals.
This 5-minute segment has NHL Operations Manager Dan Craig, showing viewers how to build a backyard rink using our landmark pond to demonstrate. This short feature will air on Canadian TV (NHL Network) and NBC and NBC affiliates in the US on New Year’s Day. Dan will announce he is in the picturesque city of Burlington, Ontario, lakefront at the landmark Rotary Centennial Pond, a great destination and wonderful place to visit.
The camera crew was impressed with the pond and the wonderful view of the lake and bridge. The cameraman even suggested he was thinking of moving to the city. Always thinking of promoting tourism we asked Dan what it would take to bring the Classic back to Canada and all they need is a 50,000 seat outdoor venue. Maybe our neighbours to the west can help with that! :)

Wonderful! Really looking forward to seeing this on New Years Day!! Why not open the Skydome and have the Winter Classic there?? (oops, the Rogers Centre!)
