Rainy Tuesday in Burlington

September 28, 2010

On a rainy Tuesday I dropped into the Burlington Art Centre to pick up a gift certificate for an upcoming conference prize basket and took a few moments to check out the great art and unique Canadian crafts at the Art Etc. Gallery shop.  They are always adding new items to their inventory and I never leave without getting a gift for someone (or myself)!  Right now the featured artist is jewellery artist Lisa Ridout.  This shop has more than 400 works of art available for rent to Gallery members - what a great way to brighten up your office, lobby or home.
While there, I dropped into the AIC gallery to see the new exhibit called Alight featuring over 30 years of paintings by Burlington wildlife artist Chris Bacon.  There is a really cool family guide that you can use while viewing the paintings with information about birds, word scrambles, bird searches etc.  My favorite work was Spring (Marsh Wren) 1997 as the bird looks like he is a trapeze artist and the detail of the bird and the bulrushes is fabulous!  Remember that there is never a cost to visit the Art Centre – it is open daily and it has numerous galleries and exhibits to enjoy plus a wonderful greenhouse to escape to with whimsical art integrated with the tropicals.
