Local Studio Art Tour

Despite the rain I took in part of Milton’s Studio Tour and dropped into the north Burlington locations.  The Milton Area Studio Tour is annually held the first weekend of October and this year featured 32 locations with 47 artists.  I had never been to Serenity Valley Spa on 8th Sideroad so this was a good chance to check out the facility at the same time.  They have a golf simulator and offer a number of wellness classes and treatments all in a lovely setting with magnificent views of both escarpment peaks – Rattlesnake Point and Mount Nemo.  They offer corporate packages too, so it would be a great place for a staff retreat or team building session.

Next I headed off to Studio Brigitte Gallery on Britannia Rd in Lowville.  Nestled in the trees is an in-home studio of Brigitte Schreyer who works mostly in watercolours and some oils.  There was a nice assortment of paintings from the local area and also from her numerous trips north to Baffin Island.  Brigitte promises to have her studio open more frequently this year and also will offer workshops if there is enough interest.  Maybe I can finally get in touch with my creative side!  One interesting fact that was shared with the tour participants was that this swiss-chalet style home was originally built by renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman and he left a signed sketch of an eagle directly on the drywall.

My final stop was to Just a Wee Gallery on Cedar Springs Rd. Painter Leigh Cockburn works with acrylic, watercolours and pastels and features nature subjects.  I picked up a couple of art cards of Mount Nemo and Crawford Lake which are always great to have on hand for thank you notes.  Leigh’s studio is not currently open to the public on a regular basis but you can view his work on his website or by appointment.

Just in time for holiday gift-giving, Burlington is hosting the 8th annual Art in Action Studio tour on November 6-7.  They have 7 studios featuring 24 artists.  After taking in these few studios today I am looking forward to this event and getting inspired!
