Tourism Burlington along with a number of the other local boards and Team Burlington partners were invited to attend the inauguration of the new council last evening. 3 new members were welcomed Marianne Meed Ward – Ward 2, Paul Sharman Ward 5 and Blair Lancaster Ward 6 along with a new Mayor Rick Goldring. The ceremony included an honour guard and ensemble from the Teen Tour Band, O Canada sung by La Majano a local quartet (that included our former board chair Jack Seedhouse) and invocation by Dr. Steve Hopkins from St. Christopher’s Anglican Church. Each member read the declaration of office and then Mayor Goldring read his inaugural address. In his positive and upbeat address Mayor Goldring indicated that they “will operate differently, be more open and accountable, be more respectful, to listen and work with the community more closely and to finish the pier.” In closing the Mayor quoted an African proverb. “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
After the formalities, the audience enjoyed refreshments in the lobby and were able to offer congratulations to the new and returning members of council.
Tourism Burlington looks forward to working together with Council to promote Burlington as a destination and welcoming visitors to the 3rd best city in Canada.
